Hard Lotus Top

The first thing I learned how to draw was a simple lotus flower- the exact one that’s the Svarini logo. My grandma was the one that taught me. The last few years she hasn’t been able to draw but after convincing her to get matching tattoos- I knew she had to be the one to draw it. She drew the outline, I shaded it in. We got the tattoos in secret (sorry Amma & Nani), and one year later- when it came time to pick the logo- it was obvious.

The lotus flower is home to Lakshmi Devi, one of my earliest nicknames given by my grandma. In a world that tells brown girls all the things that are wrong with them- she instilled at a young age (and this is important)- a praise that I couldn’t have possibly earned at the age of 3, yet she convinced me that you just as you are, you are valid, that what you want for yourself matters, more than what other people want for you. And that, unconditional love in its simplest form, has carried me through the lowest parts of my life.

The hardest top to make but a concept I conceived as a kid. 3 iterations (V1, V2, V3), so far- V3 took 100 hours with 4 hands of artistry- you can see the details in each of the petals within petals within petals. I plan to continue with V4 in the next collection.
